Trinity Rodman Takes Private Jet to Support Ben Shelton at US Open Final
The soccer star prioritized seeing her boyfriend compete in the major tennis final after her own team's match.
Women's soccer star Trinity Rodman utilized a private jet to attend the U.S. Open men's singles final, where she supported her boyfriend, Ben Shelton. Rodman made the trip shortly after playing a match for her National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) team, the Washington Spirit.
Rodman described the decision to fly privately as a "splurge" motivated by the importance of supporting Shelton during the significant tennis event. The Washington Spirit lost their match to the Boston Legacy on Sunday afternoon. Following the game, Rodman traveled to New York for Shelton's first U.S. Open singles final.
Shelton, who ultimately fell to top-seeded Alexander Zverev, acknowledged Rodman's effort in attending the match. He noted that her presence was highly valued, even though it was logistically challenging.
"Even making the effort and trying is insane," Shelton said after the match.
Shelton's appearance in the final marked a historic moment, as he became the first Black American man to reach the U.S. Open singles final since Arthur Ashe in 1972. Despite the loss, Rodman expressed pride in Shelton's accomplishment.
"Even though it wasn’t the result that he or I wanted, I think just being there for him in a big moment, and it still was such a big accomplishment," Rodman stated.
The couple, whose relationship became public in 2025, have demonstrated mutual support throughout the 2026 tournament. Rodman was present for Shelton's late-night quarterfinal victory over Carlos Alcaraz, which concluded in the early hours of the morning. She then reported for her own team's training shortly thereafter.
Shelton has also reciprocated this support, frequently attending Rodman's NWSL games. He previously traveled to Washington for a Spirit semifinal match after competing in the ATP Finals in Italy. He was also in the stands following the Spirit's loss in the 2025 NWSL Championship. "We've made a lot of sacrifices for each other," Shelton commented after his U.S. Open final appearance. "We've traveled the world to try to support each other."
