Former Cy Young Award winner Trevor Bauer has publicly criticized the Los Angeles Dodgers, calling the organization “a bunch of snakes” and expressing regret over his time with the team. Bauer stated in an interview with the YouTube channel “La casa de los Dodgers” that the club abandoned him after he was accused of sexual assault in 2021, despite the allegations never resulting in criminal charges.
"I wish I never played for them because I think the organization treated me like s–t and I am not very happy with that," Bauer said.
Bauer joined the Dodgers in 2021 on a three-year, $102 million contract. His tenure with the team began to unravel in May of that year when a woman accused him of sexual assault. Bauer has consistently denied these allegations.
He recounted that initially, the team offered support, with Dodgers manager Dave Roberts hugging him and saying, “'Hey, we’re going to get through this together and we’re going to be a family.'”
Following a five-month investigation by the Pasadena Police Department and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, no criminal charges were filed against Bauer due to insufficient evidence.
Despite this, Major League Baseball suspended Bauer for 194 games under its domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy. The Dodgers subsequently released him in January 2023. Since his release, Bauer has played in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball league, the Mexican League, and for the independent minor-league Long Island Ducks. He is currently back in the Mexican League.
Bauer has stated he does not foresee a return to MLB, believing the league "will never allow that to happen." A spokesperson for Major League Baseball referred to a previous statement indicating that Bauer "served the entirety of his discipline and is an unrestricted free agent available to sign a contract with any team." The Dodgers did not respond to a request for comment regarding Bauer's statements.
