Travis Hunter's Historic Two-Way Performance Not Enough as Jaguars Fall to Texans in London
Despite a groundbreaking game from Travis Hunter, the Jacksonville Jaguars lost a close contest to the Houston Texans on a last-second field goal.
Travis Hunter delivered a historic two-way performance for the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, but it wasn't enough to secure a victory against the Houston Texans, who won 34-31 on a last-second field goal at Wembley Stadium.
Hunter became the first NFL player in 24 years to record both a touchdown reception and an interception in the same game. He caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Trevor Lawrence early in the fourth quarter, giving the Jaguars a crucial spark. Later in the game, with 3:53 remaining, Hunter intercepted a pass from Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud in the end zone, marking his second interception of the season.
The remarkable feat by Hunter, a former two-way star at Colorado, places him in rare company. Brian Dawkins of the Philadelphia Eagles was the last player to achieve this combination of statistics, though his touchdown came on a fake punt. Roy Green of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1981 is the only other player in the Super Bowl era with a touchdown catch and an interception in the same game.
Despite his offensive and defensive contributions, Hunter also committed a pass interference penalty in the end zone earlier in the game, which led to a Texans touchdown. His offensive output extended beyond the touchdown, as he recorded four receptions for 59 yards, a significant increase from his previous five games where he had just two catches for 17 yards.
The Jaguars were seeking their second consecutive win in London, having defeated the Eagles the previous week on a last-second field goal. However, the Texans' Ka'imi Fairbairn kicked a 49-yard field goal as time expired to seal the victory.
Hunter, the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, showcased the versatility that made him a Heisman Trophy finalist in college.
