Travis Barker's new Hulu documentary, "Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear," explores significant events in his life, including his 2008 plane crash, a subsequent opioid addiction, and the miscarriage experienced by his wife, Kourtney Kardashian.

The documentary, filmed over nine years, features a posthumous appearance by Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who recounts meeting Barker in his early days as a musician.

Early Career and Encouragement

Hawkins recalled meeting Barker when he was a young musician in Laguna Beach, describing him as someone destined for success. "He was a trash man, literally," Hawkins said, "just trying to f–king make something happen." Hawkins remembered thinking Barker would one day be "the star attraction" in his own band. The two musicians remained close friends, and Barker later got a tattoo honoring Hawkins after his death.

Opioid Addiction and Fear of Flying

Barker has long had a fear of flying, which predated his 2008 plane crash. This fear contributed to a years-long opioid addiction. Barker stated that friends gave him pills to manage his flight anxiety, leading to a dependency where he felt unable to function without them. At the height of his addiction, he reported taking 20 to 30 pills a day and required a security guard to monitor his breathing. His ex-wife, Shanna Moakler, corroborated the severity of his addiction during their marriage.

The 2008 Plane Crash

In September 2008, Barker was critically injured in a plane crash that killed two pilots, his assistant Chris Baker, and security guard Charles Still. Barker and Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein were the sole survivors. Barker recounted that his daughter, Alabama, had expressed an eerie premonition about the plane before his departure, saying, "The roof is on fire, and it's gonna come off." He also revealed that he considered canceling the flight but was encouraged to proceed.

Recovery and Survivor's Guilt

Barker sustained burns on 65% of his body and underwent 27 surgeries over three months. He described experiencing suicidal thoughts during his recovery. The death of DJ AM from a drug overdose a year later intensified Barker's struggle, leading to survivor's guilt. He admitted feeling like he was in "Final Destination" and that he was next. Barker found solace by staying close to his children, sleeping in their beds and accompanying them everywhere.

Relationship with Kourtney Kardashian

Barker met Kourtney Kardashian in 2021. Kardashian stated that she was drawn to him after watching him as a father to his children. They had known each other for years and spent holidays together with their families before their romantic relationship began.

Miscarriage and IVF Journey

The couple experienced a miscarriage six months into their relationship. Kardashian revealed they were devastated and cried for days, deeply wanting to have a baby together. Following the miscarriage, they pursued in vitro fertilization (IVF). Kardashian described the IVF process as difficult on her body and mentally taxing, leading her to question if she could continue after multiple unsuccessful attempts over eight months. In May 2023, they decided to stop IVF and try to conceive naturally.

Complicated Pregnancy and Surgery

Kardashian became pregnant again in 2023. During her pregnancy, Barker expressed significant worry due to his past trauma. At seven months pregnant, while Barker was on tour, they learned the baby's lungs were filling with fluid, requiring urgent fetal surgery. Kardashian described the experience as terrifying. Barker canceled tour dates to be with her in the hospital. Their son, Rocky, was born a month later.

Encouraging Flight Again

Kardashian also shared an experience where she encouraged Barker to fly again. During a breathwork session before his first flight to Mexico since the 2008 crash, she reported seeing a vision of Barker's deceased mother, Gloria, who seemingly expressed gratitude for Kardashian taking care of her son. "Travis Barker: Louder than Fear" is currently available on Hulu.
