Travel Writer Victoria Hislop Recommends Autumn Travel to Greek Islands
Having visited 50 Greek islands, Hislop suggests autumn offers an ideal time for exploration.

Author Victoria Hislop, a frequent visitor to the Greek islands, has identified autumn as the optimal season for travel to the archipelago. Hislop, who has explored over 50 islands, believes the period offers the best experience for visitors.
Her extensive travels have led her to appreciate the unique charms of various islands. Among those she highlights is Tinos, known for its abundant marble architecture and quarries.
Another island on her list is Oinoussa, notable for its mermaid statue guarding the coast. Kefalonia, particularly the village of Assos, is described as having pristine, bougainvillea-draped settlements.
Ikaria is recognized as a 'Blue Zone' location, a rare area where healthy lifestyles contribute to a higher proportion of elderly residents enjoying good health.
Ithaca, with its trees reaching down to the water's edge, a safe natural harbor, and exceptionally clear waters, is also mentioned. Chios, famed for its medieval villages, was historically a center for prominent Greek shipping families.
Andros is noted for elegant boutique hotels like Micra Anglia, which is a converted shipowner's residence. Milos, a volcanic island, is characterized by its otherworldly rock formations.
Kimolos offers a more secluded experience, with Hislop remarking that she would choose it for a life of solitude.
Karpathos presents a rugged landscape with hilltop villages offering dramatic sea views. Finally, Naxos, a Cycladic island, welcomes visitors with a significant temple dedicated to Apollo.
Hislop's remarks were published by the Daily Mail.
