Transit Worker Fatally Stabbed by Suspect on Electronic Monitoring
The accused attacker had multiple probation violations at the time of the incident.
A Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) janitor was fatally stabbed outside the Damen Green Line station on Thursday afternoon, an attack allegedly carried out by a man who was on electronic monitoring and had a history of probation violations. The suspect, Chevazz Campbell, 37, is accused of stabbing Julian Mobley, 41, a husband and father who worked for the CTA.
The incident occurred just before 3 p.m. when Campbell allegedly entered the station without paying the fare, leading to an argument with Mobley. According to prosecutors, Campbell first sprayed Mobley in the face with mace twice before stabbing him in the neck. Campbell is also accused of robbing Mobley and was arrested hours after the attack.
Authorities confirmed that Campbell was on electronic monitoring and had at least four probation violations related to curfew infractions on file at the time of the stabbing. This detail has raised concerns about the effectiveness of electronic monitoring for individuals with prior offenses.
The Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 308, stated that Mobley died trying to stop an attack on a fellow member, calling him a hero. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson issued a statement affirming his administration's commitment to ensuring safety on the CTA for commuters and employees.
Campbell faces charges including first-degree murder, armed robbery, and being a felon in possession of a weapon. Fox News Digital has reached out to the Chicago Transit Authority for comment.
