Sidney Starr, a transgender reality television personality known for her roles in shows like "Love & Hip-Hop: New York," has been arrested and booked at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia, on multiple felony charges related to an alleged sexual assault involving a minor.
Starr, 37, whose legal name is Sidney Favors, was arrested on Sunday, August 2. She faces charges including sexual battery against a child under 16, aggravated child molestation, and sodomy. According to jail records, these offenses are allegedly related to an incident that occurred at a hotel in Hapeville, Georgia.
Following her intake, Starr was transferred to the jail's vulnerable population unit, which is designated to house LGBTQ individuals. A representative for the Fulton County Sheriff's Office stated that the transfer was based on Starr self-identifying as transgender and engaging in a "particular lifestyle" during the intake process. The spokesperson denied that the housing assignment was related to the charges she faces and confirmed she has the same privileges and security as in the general population.
Starr has publicly denied the allegations against her, stating through a representative that she "unequivocally denies the allegations against her and intends to vigorously defend herself through the legal process." She also emphasized that accusations should not be mistaken for fact and that public opinion should not replace due process. Starr has also expressed concern that the charges should not be seen as an indictment of the broader transgender community.
The Hapeville Police Department has stated that no further details will be released due to the involvement of a juvenile in the case. The investigation has been referred to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
Starr has had a notable presence in reality television and acting. She was the first transgender person to join the cast of a "Bad Girls Club" spin-off and has appeared in shows such as "Baddies ATL," "The Gworls Club," "Girlfriends and Champagne," and "Atlanta Plastic." Her acting credits include appearances in "The Chi," "Empire," "Bommerang," and "Star." At the time of her arrest, Starr was scheduled to co-host a reunion special for "Baddies ATL."
