Transgender Actor Appeals for Work to Secure Health Insurance

Transgender actor Jack Haven has publicly appealed for acting work, stating a need to earn $4,000 by the end of the month to secure health insurance through the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) for 2027. Haven, 32, who uses they/them pronouns, shared their situation in a YouTube video posted on Friday, titled 'Are You Casting?'
In the video, Haven described their situation as an 'emergency' with a deadline of less than two weeks for health insurance coverage starting in January. They offered to perform "pretty much, any job" for the required amount, highlighting skills such as singing, dancing, and performing accents. Haven is known for roles in the acclaimed horror-drama "I Saw the TV Glow" and the Netflix series "Atypical."
Later, Haven posted a follow-up video on Tuesday, expressing gratitude for job offers and addressing criticism from some social media users who suggested they get a "real job." Haven acknowledged the viral nature of their plea, noting that their video had been reposted on platforms like TikTok. They explained that a conventional job would not address their immediate healthcare needs.
Haven also mentioned doing figure modeling at an art school as a way to practice stillness. They demonstrated their acting abilities by performing lines to showcase their skills.
Beyond their roles in "I Saw the TV Glow" and "Atypical," Haven recently appeared in the horror-comedy "Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma." This film reunited Haven with "I Saw the TV Glow" writer and director Jane Schoenbrun. The movie also features Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson.
Haven's other acting credits include "The Glass Castle," "Downsizing," "Irrational Man," and "Bombshell." They have also directed two feature films and are reportedly writing a third, with plans to shoot in August and September.
