Trans Man and Wife Expecting First Child Using His Frozen Eggs
A transgender man and his wife are celebrating their first pregnancy, made possible by using his pre-transition frozen eggs and her womb.
Trans man Taylor Winters, 42, and his wife Chloe, 33, are expecting a baby girl in January 2027, marking a significant milestone in their family planning journey. The couple utilized in-vitro fertilization (IVF), employing Taylor's eggs that he had frozen before beginning his transition, and Chloe's womb for gestation.
Taylor, who was assigned female at birth, began his transition in his late 30s, starting testosterone at age 34 and undergoing top surgery and a hysterectomy. He had made the decision to freeze his eggs prior to transitioning, as he always desired to have biological children but did not envision himself carrying a pregnancy.
The IVF process began in February 2026, with the couple incurring costs exceeding $9,000. They were matched with a sperm donor in 2022. The first transfer using Taylor's frozen eggs took place in March 2026. Although the initial attempt was unsuccessful, the couple pursued a second round of IVF in May 2026, which resulted in a positive pregnancy.
Chloe, a social media manager from Watford, Hertfordshire, described the emotional journey. "My first round didn’t work, and I had to wait for my period to come back and start hormones again during that time," she stated. "After the first round, we both felt crushed but felt really determined to not let a big stretch of time go by and try again straight away." The success of the second attempt brought immense joy, especially after the disappointment of the first.
Taylor expressed his desire for biological children, noting, "From my perspective, I always wanted to have biological kids, but I didn’t want to be pregnant." He added that the current approach allows them to "use both our eggs to start a family so we each have a biological connection."
Chloe shared her lifelong dream of starting a family, saying, "I’ve always wanted a family of my own, ever since I was little. Having our own biological kids just felt right for us as it does for a lot of couples – we’re no different." She emphasized the support system they have and the loving environment they plan to provide for their child.
Chloe is currently 24 weeks pregnant, and the couple reports that the pregnancy is progressing well. They have been documenting the changes, from monitoring the baby's heartbeat to observing the results of scans. "It’s been a great journey so far. We’re super excited to be new parents. It’s been quite a long journey from the very beginning, a long process."
Looking ahead, the couple plans to have another child in the future, intending to use Chloe's eggs and the same sperm donor, ensuring both parents have a biological connection to their children. Taylor has been actively involved in supporting Chloe throughout her pregnancy, attending appointments and offering his support.
