Trans Bus Driver Fired for 'Lolita Line' Route Sues School Board
The driver, identified as L.Z., claims discrimination after being dismissed for wearing a revealing outfit and naming the bus route after a controversial novel.
A transgender school bus driver in Ontario, Canada, was terminated from their position after parents complained about a revealing schoolgirl-style uniform and the route being dubbed the "Lolita Line." The driver, identified only as L.Z. in court documents, is now suing the York Catholic District School Board and the bus company, alleging discrimination based on ethnic origin, gender identity, and sex.
The incident came to light when parents reported L.Z.'s attire and the route's name. Images circulating showed L.Z. wearing a short pink skirt, knee-high stockings, and a frilly top while standing at the bus door. In a video confronting parents, L.Z. is heard saying, "I do this every day, and I don’t think there is an issue. What’s the problem?"
The "Lolita Line" moniker is a direct reference to Vladimir Nabokov's 1955 novel about a man's obsession with a 12-year-old girl, and it also echoes the nickname of Jeffrey Epstein's private jet, the "Lolita Express."
Following the dismissal, L.Z. filed a lawsuit claiming discrimination. The driver's request to have their name kept confidential in the lawsuit, citing safety threats, was granted. However, this request only brought the case to wider public attention, as it was the legal block that made the details public.
A columnist for the National Post, Jamie Sarkonak, questioned the driver's motives, suggesting the situation could be related to mental health, a tactic to exploit human rights systems, or something else entirely. Sarkonak argued that no "rational adult" would wear such an outfit near children or use such a reference, especially when subsequently engaging in legal action.
The case draws parallels to another incident in Ontario in 2022, where a teacher named Kayla Lemieux garnered significant media attention for wearing excessively large prosthetic breasts to school. That situation also sparked debate and parental concern, with some questioning the authenticity of the teacher's actions and whether they were intended as an attention-seeking stunt at the expense of students' safety.
