Transgender activists publicly injected themselves with hormones outside NYU Langone Health hospital in a protest video that has circulated widely online. The demonstration occurred days after the hospital reached an agreement with the Department of Justice to cease providing gender transition treatments to minors. The activists stated their action was a protest against NYU's decision, which they characterized as "cowardice."
The video shows individuals preparing and administering hormone replacement therapy injections, with supporters holding signs that read "Protect Trans Kids" and "Resist." A banner displayed by some protesters declared "No compliance with Trump’s bias."
The footage, initially shared on X by Freedom News TV, has generated significant online commentary. Some viewers expressed dismay and questioned the participants' mental state, while others criticized the normalization of such medical practices.
Last week, the DOJ announced settlements with NYU Langone and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) following investigations into their practices concerning minors. The agreements stipulate that both institutions will stop providing puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgical procedures for minors, often referred to as "gender-affirming care."
As part of the resolution, NYU Langone agreed to pay $8.5 million, and UPMC agreed to pay $950,000. The DOJ emphasized that these settlements do not equate to an admission of liability by either hospital, and both institutions deny any wrongdoing. Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that the DOJ is committed to protecting children and holding accountable any hospitals that "fraudulently obtain payment for the procedures."
