A dispute over coursework in a flower arranging class escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in a 51-year-old trainee florist being ordered to pay compensation. Lorraine Jae pleaded guilty to assault by beating at Liverpool Magistrates' Court after punching fellow student Tracey Musker and throwing a drink at her.

The incident occurred on December 11 of the previous year during a lesson at St Helens College in Merseyside. The class, which reportedly involved creating Christmas wreaths, was underway when Jae became involved in an argument with the course tutor regarding her coursework. When Musker attempted to de-escalate the situation, Jae allegedly told her to "shut the f**k up."

According to prosecution notes, Musker asked Jae not to speak to her in that manner. As Jae was collecting her belongings, including her coat, she directed further verbal abuse at Musker. When Musker laughed off the abuse, Jae ran to her, punched her in the face, and then threw a full protein drink carton at her, hitting her chin.

Other students intervened to break up the fight, after which Jae stormed out of the classroom and was subsequently suspended from her course. Musker sustained bruises and a cut to her chin, along with a mark on her lip, but did not require hospital treatment and received first aid at the scene.
