Trader Joe's is set to open 25 new stores across 14 states in 2026, continuing its pattern of aggressive expansion. The company announced Wednesday that the new locations will bolster its presence in regions with high population density and consumer demand.

While eight states currently do not have a Trader Joe's, the expansion plan aims to increase the chain's footprint nationwide. The company has maintained a steady growth rate, opening 34 stores in 2024 and 43 stores in 2025. So far in 2026, Trader Joe's has opened approximately six new locations, with plans to open over 20 more by the end of the year.

The nine newly announced locations are: Phoenix, Arizona; Sarasota, Florida; Chicago, Illinois; Quincy, Massachusetts; Farmington Hills, Michigan; Syracuse, New York; Yonkers, New York; University Heights, Ohio; and West Jordan, Utah.

Several other stores have recently opened or are scheduled to open soon. These include locations in Tucson, Arizona; Anaheim Hills, California; Paso Robles, California; Orlando, Florida; West Palm Beach, Florida; Johns Creek, Georgia; Oswego, Illinois; Merriam, Kansas; New Orleans, Louisiana; Mandeville, Louisiana; Lafayette, Louisiana; Reading, Massachusetts; West Orange, New Jersey; Herriman, Utah; Seattle, Washington; and Spokane Valley, Washington.

Specific opening dates for the nine newly announced locations have not yet been released, but the company anticipates that store expansions will be completed over the next six months. Recent openings include West Palm Beach, Florida, on June 12; New Orleans, Louisiana, on June 10; and Tucson, Arizona, on May 29. Additionally, four other storefronts opened in May in Hamden, Connecticut; Miller Place, New York; McKinney, Texas; and Woodinville, Washington.

Trader Joe's currently operates in 42 states and the District of Columbia. The states without a Trader Joe's presence are Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, West Virginia, and Wyoming. The company cited low population density and logistical challenges, particularly for its supply chain, as reasons for not having locations in these states.

Founded by Joe Coulombe in 1967 in Pasadena, California, Trader Joe's operates over 600 stores. The company's business strategy includes a focus on private-label products and a rotating inventory to maintain consumer interest. Trader Joe's emphasizes competitive pricing and quality products, appealing to cost-conscious shoppers. According to the company, location selection is based on population density and traffic patterns.
