A tractor-trailer collided with an overpass on I-87 in South Nyack, New York, on Monday afternoon, causing the truck to overturn and block multiple lanes of traffic. The crash occurred around 12:20 p.m. near the South Broadway overpass.

Dashcam footage from a passing AAA garbage truck captured the moment the tractor-trailer, traveling in the middle lane, appeared to brake before striking the underside of the overpass. The impact sent debris across the highway, forcing other drivers to swerve to avoid collisions. The rig then tipped onto its right side, sliding and blocking three lanes of the busy roadway.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as 50-year-old Pernell Harris, was uninjured, according to the New York State Police. However, a person in a Toyota sedan parked in the breakdown lane near the bridge was evacuated and hospitalized. The extent of their injuries was unclear, but they were expected to survive.

Harris received a ticket for driving an over-height vehicle. The crash remains under investigation, and two lanes of traffic were closed for cleanup operations. The South Broadway bridge has been the site of a similar incident in 2023.
