Grammy-winning country artist Trace Adkins and the rock band Chicago performed at PBS's "A Capitol Fourth" event on Capitol Hill, where Adkins premiered his new patriotic song, "American Made." The song was written to coincide with the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.
Adkins stated that he and friends collaborated on the song, believing the current year was ideal for a celebration of American greatness. He shared that his wife's recent naturalization as a U.S. citizen inspired the song, highlighting the pride she feels in her new country.
"My family's been here for over eight generations on both sides. I'm proud to be an American too and you know I think we're equally as proud so there you go," Adkins said.
Founding member of Chicago, Lee Loughnane, also commented on national pride, drawing parallels to the reactions of international tourists visiting the U.S. for the FIFA World Cup. Loughnane noted that many foreign visitors express surprise at the level of service and the freedoms they experience, which are often taken for granted by Americans.
Viral social media content has featured foreign fans sharing positive experiences in the U.S., from appreciating American barbecue to noting the hospitality of everyday interactions. Videos have shown fans from countries like Japan, Australia, Germany, and Scotland expressing appreciation for their time in the United States.
Chicago's Rudy Cardenas, originally from Venezuela, echoed these sentiments, describing his life in the U.S. as a blessing. He noted that traveling and experiencing different cultures provides perspective on the quality of life in America.
Loughnane suggested that a perceived decline in patriotism might stem from people taking the country for granted or from misinformation. He affirmed his own enduring pride in being an American.
