Trace Adkins Applauds Professional Bass Fishing's Embrace of Faith and Patriotism

Country music star Trace Adkins recently performed the national anthem at the inaugural World Bass Enterprises' The Champions tournament on Old Hickory Lake, where 15 of the world's top professional bass anglers competed for a $3.25 million total purse.

Adkins, a longtime outdoorsman, expressed his admiration for the sport's willingness to incorporate elements of faith and patriotism. "I like that they're not afraid of God or patriotism. They're going to pray and have the national anthem before they fish," Adkins told OutKick OutDoors in an exclusive interview.

He noted his own lifelong connection to fishing, referencing his 2011 song "Just Fishin'," which explores the bond between a father and daughter during a fishing trip. Adkins has also actively supported outdoor activities for children, previously opening his Middle Tennessee property's lake to a group from Big Brothers Big Sisters.

The Champions tournament marked a significant event in professional bass fishing, featuring a record-breaking prize pool. The competition concluded with Matt Robertson securing the $1.25 million grand prize. The tournament also included a team competition between the Bassmaster Elite Series and Major League Fishing's Bass Pro Tour circuits.

Adkins recalled watching early bass fishing icons like Roland Martin and Bill Dance on television, contrasting it with the sport's current scale and popularity as a major spectator event. His performance at the tournament allowed him to celebrate both his passion for fishing and the values he sees reflected within the sport.
