Tour Bus Driver Dies in Crash Near Colorado-Wyoming Border; Sawyer Hill Band Members Injured
David RollingCloud Jackson, 50, suffered a medical emergency causing the vehicle to leave the road and overturn, leading to injuries for some of the band's crew.
The tour bus driver for musician Sawyer Hill died last week when the vehicle went off the road and flipped near the Colorado-Wyoming border. David RollingCloud Jackson, 50, was identified as the driver who experienced a "sudden medical emergency" that caused the bus to veer across three lanes of traffic before overturning.
Hill, 27, and his bandmates and tour crew were on board at the time of the incident. The musician shared on Instagram that the experience was "terrifying" and confirmed the driver's death, stating that several band and crew members were also injured.
"The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and out of respect for that process and for our drive and his family, we aren't able to share further details at this time," Hill wrote.
Jackson, a father of four and grandfather to three, was reportedly living with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and epilepsy, according to his daughter-in-law, Danni Won. Won has established a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses and to transport Jackson's body back to Minnesota.
"There was no warning. No time to prepare. No chance to say goodbye," Won stated in the description for the crowd-funding effort. "One moment, David was out doing something he loved, and the next, his family was left trying to comprehend a loss that feels impossible to put into words."
As of early Wednesday afternoon, the GoFundMe had raised over $14,000 toward its $20,000 goal. Jackson was driving a 2024 Freightliner M2 at the time of the crash, according to Wyoming Highway Patrol spokesperson Aaron Brown.
