Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi has indicated that the club's transfer activity is far from over, promising further "bomba" signings. The term, meaning "market bombshell" in Italian and "major surprise" in online slang, suggests significant developments are anticipated.

"The transfer market, it's not finished for sure," De Zerbi stated. "We completed 60 per cent of our project in the transfer market. Now we have another bomba."

This comes after Tottenham has already spent approximately £250 million in the current transfer window. Major acquisitions reportedly include defender Jan Paul van Hecke for over £50 million, and midfielders Mateus Fernandes for £85 million and Sandro Tonali for £100 million. The club is also in discussions to sign winger Savinho from Manchester City, although he is not believed to be the "bomba" signing.

De Zerbi emphasized the need to increase the team's goal-scoring output. Tottenham scored 48 Premier League goals last season, a total lower than many other teams in the division. A significant portion of these goals, nearly 40%, came from set-pieces, highlighting a reliance on these opportunities.

The manager is seeking forwards capable of dropping deep to link play, creating space for midfielders and wingers, a tactic he employed successfully at Brighton with players like Joao Pedro. Additionally, he wants forwards who can exploit space in the box and finish chances.

Several potential targets have been identified as fitting De Zerbi's criteria:

  • Omar Marmoush: The Egypt international is admired by De Zerbi. His ability to drop deep to collect the ball and create space for attacking teammates aligns with De Zerbi's tactical approach. He also possesses the capability to attack the box and score, and can play as a striker or a left winger.
  • Cody Gakpo: The Liverpool forward is also understood to be of interest. At 6ft 4in, he would add height to the squad. Gakpo has shown a tendency to drift in from the left and attack the box, while also being able to operate as a central striker who can drop deeper.
  • Dusan Vlahovic: Now a free agent after leaving Juventus, the 26-year-old Serbian striker stands at 6ft 3in. He has a consistent goal-scoring record but has faced significant injury issues. His style is described as an out-and-out center-forward, which may not align with De Zerbi's preference for players who link play.
  • Marcus Rashford: Currently returning to Manchester United after his loan spell at Barcelona, Rashford has been linked with a move. His ability to operate from the flank into central areas and up front could be attractive, but his game is not typically characterized by the patient build-up and pressing De Zerbi favors.
  • Lautaro Martinez: The Inter Milan forward, who was Serie A's top scorer last season, is highlighted as a "bomba" candidate. His tactical profile, which includes dropping off the front line to combine with teammates and then attacking vacated space, fits De Zerbi's system. However, Martinez has publicly expressed a strong desire to remain at Inter.
  • Julian Alvarez: The former Manchester City forward has expressed a desire to leave Atletico Madrid. Alvarez fits De Zerbi's profile with his ability to drop deep, link play, and press aggressively. His statistics, including 20 goals and nine assists for Atletico last season, underscore his impact.

While specific names are not officially confirmed, De Zerbi's comments indicate that Tottenham is actively pursuing further reinforcements to enhance their attacking capabilities.
