Tottenham Hotspur Conducts Intensive Training Camp in Marbella Amidst Season Struggles

Tottenham Hotspur has undertaken a focused training camp in Marbella, Spain, with manager Roberto De Zerbi prioritizing tactical work and team bonding. The retreat, held at the luxury Hacienda del Mar, was De Zerbi's solution to a pre-season disrupted by extensive commercial obligations and players returning late from the World Cup. He sought an environment free from distractions to "transform their season" and lift the team from the bottom of the Premier League.

The decision to base the camp in Marbella was driven by De Zerbi's desire for undisturbed preparation. The Marbella Football Center, a favored location for numerous European clubs, offers elite facilities including numerous pitches and gyms. De Zerbi's former club, Marseille, also utilized this facility multiple times in the past season. The Italian manager emphasized a need for secrecy, with minimal information and no official footage released through club channels or players' social media during the camp.

This intensive period follows a challenging start to the Premier League campaign, with Tottenham winless entering a crucial match against Coventry City. De Zerbi has previously found success with similar training retreats, recalling a two-season stint at Brighton where a similar World Cup break camp in Dubai led to a strong points return in subsequent games. He believes such periods allow for vital tactical reflection and player discussion.

Despite the intense focus on football, the squad did engage in one notable non-football activity: a visit to boxer Anthony Joshua's gym. Joshua is currently preparing for his upcoming heavyweight fight. The camp aimed to build on positive signs observed in a recent match against Manchester United, where De Zerbi noted the team showed collective spirit for the first time. He aims to leverage the Marbella camp to solidify this newfound cohesion and address tactical shortcomings ahead of further league fixtures.
