Top UK Rapper Clavish Charged in Drive-By Shooting

A prominent UK rapper, known by his stage name Clavish, has been charged in connection with a drive-by shooting that resulted in an innocent woman sustaining a gunshot wound. The rapper, whose legal name is Cian Wright, faces allegations that he fired upon a rival in a street in Stamford Hill, north London.

Clavish, 27, has been accused of conspiracy to murder, grievous bodily harm with intent, and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. He appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court earlier this month and has been remanded in custody. The charges stem from an incident on May 14, 2024, where a 38-year-old woman was shot in the leg. Detectives stated at the time that the woman was not believed to be the intended target.

Armed police responded to reports of a gun battle between two vehicles on Reizel Close, near Stamford Hill, around 7:40 p.m. Witnesses reported that occupants of the vehicles exchanged gunfire before fleeing the scene. Footage from the aftermath showed the injured woman on the pavement, receiving assistance from bystanders. She was transported to an east London hospital and her injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.

Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway of the Metropolitan Police commented at the time that the incident highlighted the "dreadful impact of gun crime across all of our communities."

Clavish, who grew up in Stamford Hill, entered London's rap scene in 2018. He gained wider recognition with his collaboration "Rocket Science" featuring D-Block Europe, which reached ninth place on the UK singles chart in 2022. His debut mixtape, "Rap Game Awful," released in January 2023, peaked at number four on the UK albums chart. He has since collaborated with notable British artists including Fredo, Headie One, K-Trap, and Aitch.
