Top House Republican Calls for Ilhan Omar's Jail Time and Deportation if Citizenship Fraud Proven

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., has stated that Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., should face jail time and deportation if federal investigators determine she lied on immigration paperwork to obtain U.S. citizenship.

Emmer, the third-highest-ranking Republican in the House, told Fox News Digital that "there have been rumors for years" regarding Omar's immigration history. "If it's determined that she lied to gain citizenship, then absolutely, she should go back to the front of the line," Emmer said. He added, "I would say first she should probably serve time in the gray bar motel and then get the hell out of here. She should go back to where she came from."

Omar is currently under federal investigation concerning allegations that she or her father misrepresented her birth year on immigration forms when her family fled Somalia in the late 1990s. At the time, Omar was believed to be 17 and, as a minor, automatically qualified for citizenship with her father, who became a U.S. citizen in 2000. Recent allegations suggest she was actually 18 at the time, which would have required her to undergo the citizenship process independently.

Omar and other Democrats, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., have characterized the probe as political persecution, particularly as it surfaces weeks before an election. Following a raid on her Washington, D.C., home where federal agents collected her cellphone, Omar stated on social media that the action was "an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement."

Jeffries and other Democratic leaders echoed this sentiment, calling the raid "deeply disturbing and raises serious questions about the continued corrupt weaponization of the federal government against Donald Trump’s adversaries."

Emmer, however, argued that the issuance of a judicially authorized search warrant by the Department of Justice indicated probable cause that a federal crime had been committed. "So the fact that they issued the warrant in the first place and then executed it, I mean maybe after all these years, someone is finally going to hold Ilhan Omar accountable," Emmer remarked.

Omar, a member of the progressive "Squad" in the House, is seeking re-election in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District. The investigation into her immigration history and the subsequent raid on her home have drawn significant attention and political commentary.
