Laura Brand, who cultivated a relationship with serial killer Lawrence Bittaker, known as the Toolbox Killer, has revealed what she describes as his final, terrifying secrets. Brand spent six years building trust with Bittaker while he was incarcerated at San Quentin prison, a feat she states eluded law enforcement, prosecutors, and his own defense team.
Mysteries surrounding the 1979 murders of five young women across California by Bittaker and his accomplice Roy Norris have persisted for decades. Notably, the locations of victims Cindy Schaefer and Andrea Hall remained unsolved for over 40 years.
According to Brand, during one prison visit, Bittaker began drawing a map that she claims would lead to the burial sites of Schaefer and Hall. He also reportedly indicated the location of a hidden archive of stolen evidence he believed police had never discovered.
Brand's account is detailed in her book, "God's Not Here, Only Devils," and she has shared exclusive excerpts with The Crime Desk. She described a particularly poignant moment when, heavily pregnant, she placed Bittaker's hand on her stomach, allowing him to feel her unborn son kick. Bittaker reportedly described the experience as the most human thing he had encountered in 40 years.
Brand's relationship with Bittaker culminated in him naming her his next of kin and confidante. The revelations come from her extensive time spent within the mind of the killer, as he lay dying and entrusted her with these final secrets.
