Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was allegedly uncooperative with law enforcement during an incident on July 23, reportedly refusing to take a test for intoxication after his arrest on suspicion of operating while intoxicated. The incident occurred following a golf event in Milwaukee.
Records obtained by The California Post indicate that Romo was issued a citation for refusing to submit to a chemical test after his arrest. According to FOX6 in Milwaukee, Romo performed poorly on field sobriety tests after being stopped on an interstate following his participation in the Wisconsin Amateur Championship. He was subsequently released and is scheduled to appear in court on September 21.
The Milwaukee County District Attorney's office has stated that Romo's case is considered a traffic violation and not a criminal charge in Wisconsin, as the allegations are still under review. Romo withdrew from a scheduled appearance at the M&P Group Texas State Open over the weekend.
Romo retired from professional football in 2017 and joined CBS as a color commentator. During his tenure as the Cowboys' starter from 2006 to 2015, he threw for 34,183 yards and 248 touchdowns, earning four Pro Bowl selections. He has yet to comment publicly on the arrest.
