CBS has placed Tony Romo on indefinite leave following his recent arrest for operating while intoxicated. Despite the leave, speculation suggests a potential return for the NFL season opener. JJ Watt is expected to fill in alongside Jim Nantz, though a return for Romo by the Packers-Vikings game on September 4 has been suggested.
Meanwhile, ESPN analyst Monica McNutt has drawn criticism for her recent commentary regarding Caitlin Clark. McNutt suggested Clark needs to exhibit more "accountability and self-awareness" in relation to negative headlines surrounding the WNBA. The remarks were made during a segment on SportsCenter.
In other news, LIV Golf is reportedly close to securing a significant investor. Paulina Gretzky, wife of golfer Dustin Johnson, posted an image of herself in a watermelon-themed dress, which has been interpreted as a celebration of the rumored deal. Johnson himself recently withdrew from the British Open qualifier.
Separately, ESPN broadcaster Karl Ravech has returned to work on assignments after being part of recent layoffs. His return was noted without immediate explanation, with sources indicating he would complete a few remaining assignments, including other MLB games and his usual Little League World Series coverage. This contrasts with the reaction of other laid-off ESPN personalities.
