Tony Romo Departs CBS Sports After OWI Arrest
The former NFL quarterback's departure from the network follows his July arrest for operating a vehicle while under the influence.

Tony Romo has left CBS Sports after a nine-year tenure, a decision confirmed following his July arrest for operating a vehicle while under the influence (OWI). The retired Dallas Cowboys quarterback was taken into custody in July and subsequently placed on leave by the network.
Romo's representative stated that the analyst is proud of his nine years with CBS, remarking, "I approached my role as a game analyst the way I’ve approached everything in my life — with a desire to win and be the best that I can be. I’m going to use this time to take a break, something I’ve never done before."
The former athlete indicated that before pursuing his next opportunity, he intends to focus on his health and family. He expressed gratitude for his time at CBS Sports and for the support of his family, friends, the NFL community, and fans.
Following his arrest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Romo had been put on leave "until further notice." In August, Romo's spokesperson told TMZ that he had been in communication with CBS about future steps and that Romo "accept[s] full responsibility for his actions and has taken proactive steps to ensure that this isolated civil matter is properly resolved."
Romo pleaded no contest to the OWI charge in September. Other charges, including unsafe passing on the right and possession of open intoxicants, were dismissed. As a result of the conviction, Romo was prohibited from driving for six months and required to install an ignition interlock device on any vehicle registered in his name. He was also ordered to complete an Alcohol Assessment Program and pay court costs and a fine.
