Tony Blair, 73, Displays Buff Physique in Indonesian Gym Photo

Tony Blair, the former British Prime Minister, has shared a photograph of himself at a gym in Indonesia, showcasing a toned physique. The image, posted on Instagram, features the 73-year-old alongside Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, Speaker of the Indonesian Regional Representative Council.

Mr. Najamudin shared the photo, noting that the workout session with Blair included "plenty of conversation and story-sharing." He described the atmosphere as relaxed and commented on the interesting exchanges that arose from the simple act of exercising together. He concluded his post with a message to "stay active, stay healthy, and keep your spirits up."

Comments on the original Instagram post were reportedly restricted following some users expressing dismay over the Indonesian politician exercising with Blair, who was a key figure in the decision to invade Iraq.

Blair's dedication to fitness has been a recurring theme throughout his public life. During his tenure as Prime Minister, his engagement in activities like table tennis and treadmill running was well-documented, which he attributed to stress management. A notable instance recalled is his 1995 exchange of headers with former England footballer Kevin Keegan outside the Labour Party Conference.

He also participated in a mile run for Sport Relief in 2006 alongside notable athletes. Blair has continued to prioritize fitness after leaving office, stating in a 2016 interview that he gyms most days, finding it increasingly important with age.

Blair has cultivated significant relationships with political figures in Indonesia. He was the first British Prime Minister to visit the country in over two decades when he traveled to Jakarta in 2006. He and his family later vacationed in Bali in 2009. Since stepping down as Prime Minister and establishing the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, he has served as an advisor to the Indonesian government.

In 2020, he was appointed to the steering committee for the development of Nusantara, Indonesia's new capital city on the island of Borneo, with plans for its relocation by 2028. More recently, in July, Blair visited the country to engage with its sovereign wealth fund, Danantara, and met with President Prabowo Subianto.

The former Prime Minister also drew criticism from Andy Burnham in May of the current year. Burnham, then a contender for the Labour leadership, critiqued Blair for what he perceived as a failure to acknowledge inequality in Britain, following Blair's critical remarks about the Labour government's lack of a coherent plan and its perceived drift to the left, which he argued was hindering business.
