Tony Blackburn Becomes Grandfather for Third Time

Veteran disc jockey Tony Blackburn, 83, has become a grandfather for the third time following the birth of his granddaughter, Eloise. His daughter, Victoria, welcomed her first child recently, marking a new chapter for the celebrated radio presenter.

Blackburn described the profound feeling of holding his granddaughter for the first time, stating, "I've never had a feeling with a baby quite like that before. I adore her." He shared this sentiment in an interview with The Sunday Times Magazine, detailing his close relationship with his daughter.

Victoria Blackburn, now 30, reflected on the advantages of having an older father. She noted that when she was born, Blackburn was 53 and more mature, making him a very present figure in her life. She said, "I think I was lucky because when I came along Dad was older and very present in my life. He was on the radio every morning... which meant he was around when I came home."

Blackburn, known for his career beginning as the first DJ on BBC Radio 1 in 1967, also shared a humorous anecdote about his daughter's wedding. Victoria declined his offer to DJ her wedding, telling him it was because he was too "cheesy." Blackburn recounted the experience, saying, "Honestly, how hurtful," though he added that he offered a discount.

He also has a 50-year-old son, Simon, from his first marriage to actress Tessa Wyatt. The article also touches upon Blackburn's past marriage to Wyatt, their divorce in 1977, and disputed accounts of infidelity during their relationship.

Blackburn has received two lifetime achievement awards from the Radio Academy and is noted for his entertaining persona, with some suggesting his early radio character influenced by him.
