Conservative commentator Tomi Lahren criticized Mets SNY broadcaster Gary Cohen after he suggested he could have pursued a career as a political operative. The exchange occurred during Wednesday's Mets-Marlins game broadcast.
Cohen, reflecting on alternative career paths with fellow announcer Ron Darling, stated, "I think I could follow in the footsteps of my old friend George Stephanopoulos. I could be a political operative." He added that he felt he had a "good handle on the issues, and know how to call the right people to put things in place."
Darling jokingly responded that Cohen might lose his friend and broadcast partner Keith Hernandez, who leans politically right, if he pursued a career in news. Cohen's comments were later shared by OutKick host Tomi Lahren, who is married to current Mets catching coach J.P. Arencibia. Lahren wrote on social media, "Nobody wants to hear Gary Cohen on the Mets SNY broadcast talking about how he would be a good Democrat political operative. Barf."
This is not the first time the SNY broadcast booth has seen a notable on-air discussion. In September, Cohen expressed bewilderment when a player skipped a Cubs game for a memorial event. Additionally, Hernandez and Cohen have had past on-air disagreements, including a recent moment involving the Milwaukee Braves' former logo, where Cohen cautioned Hernandez that "some people might not think so" when Hernandez described it as a "great logo."
