Tom Cruise Offers Surprising Take on Taylor Swift's Football Acumen

Tom Cruise has shared his observations on Taylor Swift's grasp of American football, noting her initial confusion and subsequent rapid learning curve.

Cruise appeared on the "New Heights" podcast, hosted by brothers Travis and Jason Kelce, where he recounted a conversation with Swift after attending a Kansas City Chiefs game. Swift was seen cheering alongside Cruise at the game on Monday night, September 14, 2026.

During the podcast, Cruise described Swift's early understanding of the sport, recalling how she initially misinterpreted the physicality of football. "She was telling me about your all’s first date. You were talking about football,” Cruise said. "But also what she said was, how she was like, ‘What was it like [having Travis and Jason] hitting each other.’ She was out there thinking that [Jason and I] were out there basically boxing each other on the field!"

Travis Kelce confirmed Swift's initial lack of football knowledge when their relationship began. However, he also noted her significant progress in understanding the game. "And now she knows everything. She sees the flags coming in, she’s like like, ‘Oh, that might be a defensive hold.’ I’m just like, ‘What? What did you say, sweetie?’ She was like, ‘That’s encroachment.’ I’m like, ‘Do you know what that is?’ Yeah, she’s, she’s on it now,” Kelce explained.

Cruise added that Swift has become quite knowledgeable, even pointing out specific plays and penalties during games. "She was schooling me! Like, this happened, that’s happened. He’s coming in. It was awesome,” Cruise remarked, indicating Swift's growing expertise.
