Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway will co-star for the first time in a sequel to the 1990 film "Days of Thunder." The announcement was made through a promotional photo and video shared on social media, featuring the two actors against the backdrop of Daytona International Speedway.

Cruise, 64, is set to reprise his role as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle. Hathaway, 43, will portray a team owner and engineer. The film is scheduled for release on June 2, 2028, and will be presented in IMAX and other premium large-screen formats.

Cruise will also produce the film alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper, with Will Staples writing the script and Jonathan Levine directing. Paramount Pictures is producing the new movie.

In a lighthearted video, Cruise and Hathaway confirmed their involvement. Hathaway, who is expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman, quipped about filming after her baby's arrival. Cruise agreed, stating, "You have the baby and then we're gonna make the movie."

The original "Days of Thunder," directed by the late Tony Scott, earned $82.6 million domestically and $157.9 million worldwide. The cast of the original film included Cary Elwes, Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, Caroline Williams, and Michael Rooker. Cruise famously met his ex-wife Nicole Kidman on the set of this movie.

Elwes recently recalled Cruise's dedication during the filming of the original, mentioning an incident where Cruise crashed a car on the first day of driving. Elwes described Cruise as a "terrific guy" who is professional and supportive.
