Tom Brady's 11-Day Bahamas Trip Was a Last-Ditch Effort to Save Marriage

Tom Brady made a final, 11-day attempt to salvage his marriage to Gisele Bündchen in the Bahamas months before their eventual divorce, according to an upcoming biography.

Brady, then 49, received a leave of absence from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 2022 training camp to travel to a private resort. His aim was to mend his 13-year marriage, which was reportedly on the brink.

"I’ve got to take care of some personal things," Brady told coach Clyde Christensen, as detailed in the biography "Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness." The abrupt departure left coaches and teammates uncertain about his return.

Upon Brady's return to Tampa 11 days later, Christensen observed that the trip had not resolved the marital issues. "Tom was an empty shell of who he was when he got back," Christensen recounted. "There was no joy. Everything was hard work."

Reports suggest Brady appeared alarmingly thin during this period, with some associates privately remarking he resembled a cancer patient. The seven-time Super Bowl champion's marriage had reportedly been strained for years, with Bündchen expressing a desire for him to retire from football to spend more time with their family.

As far back as 2017, after Brady led the New England Patriots to victory in Super Bowl LI, Bündchen reportedly asked him about retiring. According to the biography, she again broached the subject the following year after the Patriots' Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, having penned an emotional letter.

"She needed him to be present when he was at home, not responding to text messages on his constantly buzzing cell phone or replaying a game in his mind," the book states. "She needed more help with the kids. She needed the chance to sleep in just a few days a week. She needed more time for her own career."

Bündchen, a prominent model, had prioritized raising their two children, Benjamin, 16, and Vivian, 13, and helped raise Brady's son, Jack, 19, from a previous relationship. The biography suggests that Bündchen ultimately ended the marriage after consulting an astrology book, with an insider close to Brady reporting she stated they were "not compatible."

Brady and Bündchen announced their divorce on October 28, 2022, citing their children as their priority. Bündchen stated on Instagram, "We have grown apart and while it is, of course, difficult to go through something like this, I feel blessed for the time we had together and only wish the best for Tom always."

Bündchen has since remarried jujitsu instructor Joaquim Valente. Brady has reportedly been linked to model Irina Shayk and internet personality Alix Earle.
