Tom Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl champion, has identified the infamous David Tyree catch in Super Bowl XLII as the "worst thing I could’ve ever imagined," recalling the play that denied the New England Patriots a perfect season.

During a recent #AskTom session, Brady was prompted to share the worst thing he ever heard a referee say. Instead of a personal taunt, his mind immediately went to the confirmation of Tyree's improbable reception. The New York Giants wide receiver famously pinned the ball against his helmet for a 32-yard gain in the fourth quarter, a play that set up the game-winning touchdown and preserved the Patriots' 18-0 record.

"The catch on the field has been confirmed," Brady stated, recounting the words that signaled the Giants' improbable victory. He described the catch as "arguably the greatest catch in NFL history," detailing how Eli Manning evaded a sack and delivered the ball to Tyree. Brady noted that he believed Patriots defender Rodney Harrison had coverage and that the ball would likely be deflected, with several Patriots players in position to intercept it.

"Instead, he pins it against his helmet. And, as he’s falling to the ground, it never comes loose and it ends up being one of the saddest moments in my career," Brady said. He also expressed lingering frustration over a perceived holding penalty on defensive lineman Richard Seymour during the play.

Beyond the Super Bowl XLII memory, Brady addressed other topics in the #AskTom segment. He explained a mishap in the broadcast booth during a Los Angeles Rams-Philadelphia Eagles game, where he accidentally muted himself by setting down his heavy preparation book. Brady described the experience as initially panicking, but ultimately embracing it as a teachable moment, comparing it to a quarterback fumbling a snap.

When asked about the best trash talker he encountered, Brady named Ray Lewis as the most intimidating, praising his ability to back up his words. He also mentioned Richard Sherman, initially finding him annoying but later valuing their teammate status. Rex Ryan was also called out as an "annoying trash talker" whose teams he felt "couldn’t back it up."

Brady also discussed quarterback mechanics, emphasizing pocket awareness and drills to improve a quarterback's ability to find the "soft spot" within the pocket. He praised Patrick Mahomes for his ability to effectively balance pocket navigation and playmaking.

Addressing the NBA-to-NFL transition, Brady suggested LeBron James would be a prime candidate to join the Las Vegas Raiders, citing his physical attributes and scoring prowess as ideal for red zone targets.
