A toddler fell from a chairlift-style attraction on the Jersey Shore on Monday evening, leading to an investigation by state officials. The incident occurred aboard Casino Pier’s Sky Ride in Seaside Heights around 7:40 p.m. before the ride had begun moving.

The 2-year-old girl fell from the Sky Ride and landed on an entrance platform near the boardwalk before reaching the sand, according to reports. A 3-year-old boy who was with the girl remained on the ride, which Casino Pier staff quickly stopped. Firefighters used a ladder to help the boy descend safely from the approximately 10 to 12-foot-high ride.

Emergency medical services evaluated the girl at the scene. She and her aunt were transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River for further medical evaluation. The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, which oversees amusement ride inspections and licensing, is investigating the incident. Police stated that the ride appeared to be functioning properly, with no apparent defects, and there is currently no indication of a malfunction.

The Sky Ride at Casino Pier was built by Borvig and began operating in 1983.

This event follows a recent string of amusement park ride incidents nationally, including a woman's serious injuries after allegedly being ejected from a roller coaster in Colorado and riders being suspended mid-air on a Six Flags ride in Texas earlier this spring.
