Parents are being warned to immediately inspect their children's toy playsets for a potentially life-threatening defect. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a warning regarding the WPX-4 indoor and outdoor slide playset, manufactured by Wenzhou Yidian Amusement Equipment Co, Ltd.
The playset features openings that are large enough for a child's torso but too small for their head to pass through, creating a risk of serious injury or death from entrapment. The CPSC is aware of one incident where a 17-month-old child died as a result of entrapment in the playset.
The plastic playsets, manufactured in China, are designed for indoor or outdoor use and include features such as a tunnel, slide, and basketball hoop. They have been sold in various colors including red, navy, coffee, gray, green, and yellow, with some models featuring an attached vehicle-shaped section.
The CPSC advises parents to check the label on their playset for Model WPX-4 and the manufacturer Wenzhou Yidian Amusement Equipment Co, Ltd. If this product is in their possession, children should not be allowed to use it. Owners are instructed to dispose of the playset and are specifically advised not to sell, donate, or give it to another family.
This alert is a safety warning, not a formal recall, meaning the product is not being taken back by the manufacturer. Further information and reporting details can be found on the U.S. CPSC website. This incident follows other recent safety concerns, including Walmart's recall of over 16,800 fabric dressers earlier this year due to federal stability test failures that posed a risk of tip-over incidents to children.
