A 2-year-old boy died and his mother was hospitalized after police responded to a call about an unresponsive child Tuesday afternoon in Frankfort, Illinois. Officials are investigating the incident as a “domestic-related homicide.”

Officers arrived at a residence on a report of an unresponsive child and found the boy receiving CPR. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The boy’s mother was also found inside the home attempting self-harm, according to authorities. She was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Neighbors told NBC Chicago that the event brought to mind the ongoing case of Lindsay Clancy, who has admitted to strangling her three young children in Massachusetts before attempting suicide. Carolyn Pappas, a neighbor, described the incident as “heartbreaking” and “devastating,” expressing concern that such events could happen within the community.

“This is just absolutely devastating, that this could be another Lindsay Clancy situation in our neighborhood, in our community,” Pappas said. “You never think it’s going to hit so close to home.”

Pappas added that the situation serves as a reminder that people may be struggling without others knowing, emphasizing the need for community support. Police have stated their thoughts are with those affected by the tragedy and encouraged community members to support one another.

Investigators were present at the Frankfort home for an extended period on Tuesday.
