A 2-year-old boy died Tuesday in Frankfort, Illinois, after police responded to a call and discovered his mother with injuries believed to be self-inflicted. Authorities are investigating the incident as a domestic-related homicide.
Police were dispatched to a home on Brook Stone Court shortly after 4 p.m. following a report of an unresponsive child. Upon arrival, officers found the boy and initiated CPR. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The mother was also found at the residence and was hospitalized with injuries that were not deemed life-threatening.
An investigation is ongoing, and officials have not yet released details about how the child died, identified the mother, or stated whether any charges have been filed.
Five individuals were transported from the property by the Frankfort Fire Protection District, though details about the other three have not been disclosed.
Neighbors expressed shock and concern, with some drawing comparisons to the case of Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts mother who admitted to killing her three children before attempting to take her own life. "This is just absolutely devastating, that this could be another Lindsay Clancy situation in our neighborhood, in our community," said Carolyn Pappas, a local resident. "You never think it's going to hit so close to home." Pappas added that the incident serves as a reminder that individuals may be experiencing crises without visible signs to their neighbors, urging residents to check on one another.
