A 1-year-old boy was bitten on his back inside a Bronx apartment early Monday morning, according to authorities and law enforcement sources. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. inside a home on Fillmore Street in the Van Nest neighborhood.
Police responded after the child's mother called 911 from the East 149th Street and Third Avenue subway station. She reported that she had rushed into the bedroom after hearing her son screaming and her boyfriend questioning why he had done it. The mother then took the child and left the apartment, heading towards Lincoln Medical Center.
The child was transported to the hospital and listed in stable condition. Sources indicated that his skin was not broken, but he had visible teeth marks on his back.
The alleged assault took place after the couple had brought the child into the bedroom due to loud music playing elsewhere in the apartment. Video from the scene showed the distressed mother speaking with officers outside the subway station while the child drank from a bottle in a stroller.
No arrests had been made in the hours following the incident, authorities said.
