Toddler Becomes Youngest to Conquer 214 Lake District Peaks
Three-year-old Navy Moores completed the Wainwright Fells Challenge in five months, covering 510 miles.
A three-year-old boy has become the youngest known person to complete the challenge of scaling all 214 Lake District fells featured in Alfred Wainwright's pictorial guides. Navy Moores, from Kendal, Cumbria, finished the feat in just five months.
During his adventure, Navy covered a total of 510 miles with an ascent of nearly 225,000 feet. His final peak was England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike, which he reached on Sunday. Instead of traditional celebrations, Navy requested a pancake with Nutella, a bike ride, and an episode of the children's cartoon Paw Patrol.
Navy was accompanied on his hikes by his father, Daniel Moores, mother Leanne Helm, and his older siblings, 14-year-old Jessica and six-year-old Oliver. His father, who has previously climbed Mount Everest and cycled around the world, wanted to continue adventurous pursuits with his children. Initially, Navy was carried in a backpack, but he soon began walking on his own.
His parents decided to attempt the Wainwright Fells Challenge with Navy in May of this year. The challenge involves climbing the fells documented by guidebook author Alfred Wainwright in his seven-volume series published between 1955 and 1966. The day after completing the final fell, Navy asked his parents if they would go hiking again.
