The “Today” show has implemented stricter security protocols, including a limit of two individuals per guest in the studio, following a security breach on July 16. An intruder, identified as Andrew Truelove, gained access to the NBC studio with the intent of confronting Al Roker but instead encountered and verbally accosted host Craig Melvin.

An email sent to staff on Wednesday, as reported by Variety, detailed the new measures. "Moving forward, there will be a maximum of two (2) people in the studio per guest," the email stated. "This includes anyone accompanying the guest — PR representatives, hair/makeup, social media, photographers, stylists, studio representatives, or any other support personnel. We’ll defer to you on who those two individuals should be, but there will be no exceptions or additional personnel permitted in the studio during the interview."

During the confrontation, Truelove reportedly used a racial slur towards Melvin and asked for Roker’s location. Melvin quickly alerted security, and Truelove was arrested. He faces hate crime charges including menacing, burglary, criminal trespass, and harassment, with bail set at $10,000. Both Roker and Melvin have been granted protective orders against Truelove.

Sources told Page Six that staffers have been on edge since the incident, with one calling it "chilling." Security footage reportedly showed two guards on duty at the time of the breach, with one guard stepping away and the other failing to notice Truelove's entry. The security guard who allowed the intruder into the building has reportedly been fired.

Following the incident, Melvin shared a statement on Instagram assuring his fans he was "doing just fine."
