Toby Young Blocked From Savile Club Membership

Writer and free speech advocate Toby Young has been denied membership in the Savile Club, a £2,000-a-year gentlemen's club in London's Mayfair. Young, who was nominated for a peerage by Kemi Badenoch in 2024, was reportedly blackballed due to his right-wing politics, according to a source cited by Richard Eden.

Despite a supportive showing from younger members, with many signatures in the candidate's book, a contingent of older, left-leaning lawyers is believed to have blocked his application. This development comes as the Savile Club also voted against admitting women as members last year. IMAGE1

Young, 62, is known for establishing free schools and founding the Free Speech Union and the Daily Sceptic. His career has seen him fall foul of figures in authority, a pattern that has previously led to public attention. His time at Vanity Fair in New York ended with his dismissal by the editor, which he later turned into the best-selling book "How To Lose Friends & Alienate People."

When reached for comment, Lord Young declined to discuss the matter, stating, "Even though I’m not a member of the Savile, I respect the rule of Omerta nevertheless."
