TJ Watt's Wife Questions NFL's Decision to Hold Paris Game Amid Unrest
Dani Watt expresses disbelief on social media as France grapples with widespread protests.
Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt's wife, Dani Watt, has publicly questioned the NFL's decision to proceed with the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New Orleans Saints game in Paris on Sunday, citing the ongoing civil unrest in France. The former NWSL player shared a news headline on her Instagram Story that stated the NFL intended to continue with the game despite the protests, adding the comment, "Tell me how this makes sense??"
France has been experiencing significant protests involving over 500,000 people marching nationwide over the weekend. Some demonstrations have escalated to violence, with instances of looting, vandalism, and clashes with law enforcement reported. The unrest initially stemmed from student protests against inadequate school facilities, teacher shortages, and insufficient funding.
The NFL has stated that preparations are underway for the game, which is scheduled to take place at the Stade de France. The league issued a statement affirming that they are working closely with local authorities and partners on all operational and security matters. The NFL also noted that they are providing regular updates to the Steelers and Saints and that "There’s been no disruption or impact at league sites."
Greg Bensel, a Saints executive, echoed the NFL's sentiment in a statement, confirming the team's plan to play the game. He added that the Saints have maintained daily security updates with their security partners in France and that their team representatives on the ground have reported no disruptions at their sites.
This situation comes as the NFL continues its international series, aiming to expand its global reach. The decision to proceed with the game amid domestic turmoil in the host country has drawn public scrutiny, including from Watt's wife.
