Titans Lineman JC Latham Addresses Gun Incident Involving Jordan Elliott
JC Latham stated there was no prior conflict with Jordan Elliott, describing the event as an unfortunate, heat-of-the-moment situation.
Tennessee Titans offensive lineman JC Latham has spoken out about the recent gun incident involving teammate Jordan Elliott, calling it an "unfortunate situation" and a "heat of the moment" event.
Elliott retrieved a gun from his car in the parking lot following an altercation with Latham. Despite the serious nature of the event, Latham emphasized that there was no existing animosity between them. "There ain’t never been no bad blood between us two," Latham told reporters. "We were here over the summer getting treatment. Before that, we hung out whenever we were in the same city together. We actually had never had an argument leading up to it."
Titans head coach Robert Saleh had previously defended Elliott, suggesting the incident might have been a "call for help." Latham appeared to agree with this assessment, highlighting the importance of mental health.
"I do think mental health is extremely important," Latham said. "That's just one of those situations where you just pray for a guy like that, if you can, reach out to him, hope for the best for him. There's no bad blood. It's nothing personal on my end."
Saleh had passionately defended Elliott, a 28-year-old father and husband who had no prior criminal record. "I will stand on the table for Jordan's character. Unfortunately, rules are rules with regards to guns on property. And sometimes it's far greater than the knee-jerk reaction of kicking somebody when they're down," Saleh stated. He added that Elliott's action was a "lapse in judgment" that he interpreted as a "call for help more than a criminal act."
Saleh characterized the incident as a sign that "something greater happening" and praised the team and the NFL for their response in ensuring Elliott received the necessary help.
