Titans CEO Apologizes to Fans for Dismal 0-5 Start
Burke Nihill expresses regret for the team's performance and conveys confidence in the coaching and general manager to improve the situation.
Tennessee Titans CEO Burke Nihill has issued an apology to the team's fanbase following a winless 0-5 start to the season, acknowledging that the on-field product has been unsatisfactory for an extended period.
"The first thing I would say back to the fans is just that we're sorry," Nihill told ESPN on Friday. "There's nobody in this building that doesn't feel ... a sense of grief about it, because not only are we fans of the team as well, but we feel the sense of responsibility to deliver. And we've let our fans down because football is supposed to be fun."
Nihill stated that the team's current standing, having lost 33 of their last 39 games and currently on a seven-game losing streak dating back to the previous season, is unacceptable. The Titans have secured only six victories since the beginning of the 2023 season.
Despite the dismal record, Nihill expressed confidence in the team's leadership, specifically mentioning head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Mike Borgonzi. Saleh was hired in the offseason, and Borgonzi is in his second year. Quarterback Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, is entering his second season.
"I personally feel a sense of stability," Nihill said. "I believe that Mike Borgonzi and Robert Saleh are ultimately going to get this team out of the woods and restore it to competitive football. The train is on the tracks. It just hasn't picked up momentum, but it will."
He added, "I can confidently say this organization is in a place where there is organizational belief in Mike, in Robert, and they absolutely have all the support they need to get this train moving and moving faster."
The Titans are currently last in the NFL in points per game, averaging 11.6. While the defense has been a relative strength, ranking tied for 11th by allowing 21.8 points per game, it has not been enough to compensate for the offense's struggles.
The team has experienced significant turnover in leadership roles, with either a general manager or head coach being fired annually since 2022. Nihill and the fanbase are hopeful for a turnaround, with the Titans scheduled to play the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in their next attempt to secure their first win of the season.
