Titans CEO Apologizes to Fans, Expresses Confidence in Coach Saleh Amid Winless Start
Tennessee faces a 0-5 record, but leadership affirms support for head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Mike Borgonzi.
Tennessee Titans CEO Burke Nihill has publicly apologized to the team's fanbase for the club's winless 0-5 start to the season, while simultaneously expressing unwavering confidence in head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Mike Borgonzi.
"The first thing I would say back to the fans is just that we’re sorry," Nihill stated in an interview with ESPN. "There’s nobody in this building that doesn’t feel … a sense of grief about it, because not only are we fans of the team as well, but we feel the sense of responsibility to deliver. And we’ve let our fans down because football is supposed to be fun."
Nihill acknowledged the team's struggles but believes the leadership is on the right track. "I believe that Mike Borgonzi and Robert Saleh are ultimately going to get this team out of the woods and restore it to competitive football. The train is on the tracks. It just hasn’t picked up momentum, but it will," he said, adding that both Saleh and Borgonzi have "all the support they need to get this train moving and moving faster."
Saleh, who previously served as head coach of the Jets from 2021 to 2024 and as defensive coordinator for the 49ers last season, took over the Titans' head coaching position this offseason. The team's current 0-5 record places them among the three winless squads in the NFL, with a -51 point differential and averaging under 12 points per game.
Quarterback Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in 2025, addressed the team's performance and the pressure to produce. "No, I’m not a loser," Ward responded when asked if he had grown accustomed to losing. "The record may say that we are right now. But at the end of the day, you have got to go through some stuff to try to get wins." He added, "We attack this each and every day, but for that, if you’re able to look at everyone in our locker room’s track record, we’ve all won games at a high level, and we’re looking forward to doing that in the long run."
The Titans are set to face the Colts this Sunday, aiming to avoid an 0-6 start. Tennessee has posted a 3-14 record in each of its last two seasons and has not reached the playoffs since 2021.
