A small pig, nicknamed "Wilbur," led authorities and onlookers on a chase through the streets of West Hollywood over the weekend before its adventure concluded at the Los Angeles Animal Shelter. The pig's escapade gained traction online after being documented in a viral TikTok video.
Jamaal Harrison, who posted the video, initially mistook the animal for a small dog while riding his e-bike. "I, basically, was riding down the street when I saw what I think is a little puppy, and it’s not a little puppy — that’s a pig!" Harrison told CBS. The pursuit unfolded through West Hollywood and the Fairfax area, with Wilbur managing to elude those attempting to capture it and ensure its safety.
The video of the chase quickly circulated on social media, where the pig became an online sensation. Viewers in the comments offered potential clues to the pig's origin, with some claiming to recognize it. "The comments are going, ‘Oh, I know that pig. I know where that pig comes from and I’ve seen that pig before,'" Harrison said.
Wilbur's journey ended when it was captured and transported to the Los Angeles Animal Shelter. The pig is slated to be held there until August 20, providing a window for its owner to come forward and claim it. Should the owner not be found, Wilbur will likely be relocated to a facility equipped to care for pigs. The event drew significant attention, with many expressing affection for the runaway animal online.
