Tim Scott Recounts 'Miraculous' Teenage Car Crash
The South Carolina Republican senator shared details of a near-fatal accident that altered his life's trajectory.
Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., has described a car crash from his teenage years as a "miraculous" event, suggesting divine intervention saved his life. Scott recounted the incident during an appearance on Sean Hannity's podcast, "Hang Out With Sean Hannity."
"I feel like, in an unusually miraculous way, some power — angel, in my opinion — protected me through all of that carnage," Scott said. He recalled that during the accident, he yelled "Jesus" for help.
The crash occurred when Scott, then a promising high school football player, fell asleep at the wheel on his way home after driving his mother to work. Waking to the sound of his tires on gravel, he attempted to regain control, sending the car spinning before it hit the median. Scott was thrown through the windshield while still holding onto the steering wheel.
The accident resulted in Scott sustaining back injuries and a broken ankle, which ultimately ended his prospects for numerous college athletic scholarships. Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina, did offer him a partial scholarship.
Scott later stated that he dedicated his life to Jesus Christ during a Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting at the college. He shared these personal reflections with Hannity at the Republican National Committee Midterm Convention in Dallas.
