Tim Davies Signs Off from 'Today' After Seven Years
The beloved weatherman delivered his final broadcast, sharing emotional goodbyes with colleagues and viewers.
Tim Davies, the longtime weatherman for the Australian program "Today," bid an emotional farewell to viewers on Friday, concluding a seven-year tenure with the Nine Network.
During his final broadcast, Davies was surrounded by colleagues who surprised him with special appearances throughout the show. Among those who joined him were his original producer, Gerry Campbell, staff from Qantas, and members of the Australian Girls Choir. According to Qantas staff, Davies traveled the equivalent of 16 trips around the globe during his time on "Today," undertaking an estimated 900 flights for his weather segments.
Visibly emotional, Davies expressed gratitude to his team, referring to them as "friends in arms and brothers for life." He also acknowledged former co-hosts Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo, who were not present. Davies described the farewell as akin to a funeral, albeit one surrounded by "all the people he loves."
He shared that the past three weeks had brought an "incredible wave of love" following the announcement of his departure. Davies thanked the audience for their messages and for accepting him as he was during his broadcasts.
"The best journeys begin when you say yes and have the courage to step into the unknown," Davies remarked, describing his decision to leave as stepping into the unknown but expressing excitement for what lies ahead. Nine has not yet announced a replacement for Davies.
Davies joined "Today" in 2019 and became known for his engaging weather reports from various locations across Australia. His role often involved adventurous live segments, including skydiving, bungee jumping, abseiling, high-speed driving, and encounters with marine life.
Upon announcing his departure three weeks prior, Davies called his role the "best job in TV," citing the privilege of working with top broadcasters, traveling daily, and showcasing Australians. He added that delivering uplifting stories had been one of the most significant rewards and that it felt like the right time to step back, rest, and prepare for his next chapter.
