Tilda Swinton to Reprise Iconic Role in New York Stage Debut
The Oscar-winning actress will return to the stage in a revival of 'Man to Man,' a play that launched her career 40 years ago.
Tilda Swinton, known for her transformative performances, is set to make her New York stage debut in a revival of Manfred Karge’s play "Man to Man." This production marks a significant return to a role that first launched her career at Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre in 1987, exactly 40 years ago.
Swinton will once again embody a widow from 1930s Nazi Germany who assumes her deceased husband's identity and profession to survive, a deception she maintains for decades. The acclaimed actress admitted to a continued draw to this non-conforming character, stating that her ongoing interest in performance stems from a fascination with society's preoccupation with identity.
The play, which spans 50 years, has seen Swinton revisit the role multiple times since a film adaptation in 1992. This upcoming production, however, will be her first Off-Broadway performance.
"Man to Man" is scheduled to open in February at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in New York.
The actress, who grew up in the Borders region of Scotland, currently resides in Nairn with her partner Sandro Kopp and her twin children, Conor and Xavier.
