TikToker's Eyebrow Tint Nightmare Goes Viral, Amassing Millions of Views

A British social media influencer's beauty routine took a dramatic turn when she accidentally left eyebrow tint on her face overnight, resulting in a viral TikTok video that has garnered over 40 million views.

Jess Olivia shared her mortifying experience online after waking up to discover a thick, black paste had been on her eyebrows for approximately eight hours. In the video, a panicked Olivia is seen frantically scrubbing her face with micellar water and cotton pads, expressing her distress about the extreme tinting and her upcoming plans for the evening.

"I’ve just woken up, and I forgot to take my tint off my eyebrows … No, this is not good because I’m going out tonight," she exclaimed on camera.

To combat the stubborn discoloration, Olivia resorted to using acetone nail polish remover, while her mother assisted with another product to help lift the deep stain. The incident occurred after Olivia applied the tint around midnight or 1:00 a.m. before falling asleep watching a movie, only to wake up hours later with severely darkened brows.

The influencer noted that the mishap was particularly stressful as she had a date scheduled for that same night.

The video quickly gained traction, with viewers comparing Olivia's dramatically tinted eyebrows to various characters and celebrities, including Amanda Bynes and the Angry Birds character Red. The comments section was flooded with reactions, ranging from expressions of shock to advice on tint removal.

Beauty brands also weighed in on the situation, with several acknowledging the effectiveness of the tinting product itself, albeit unintentionally applied for an extended duration. Garnier, whose micellar water Olivia used, commented, "We’re panicked for you," while Benefit Cosmetics noted, "We can feel the panic from here."

Experts caution that leaving eyebrow tint on for significantly longer than the recommended time, typically 5 to 10 minutes, can lead to adverse effects. Prolonged exposure to the dyes and active ingredients can cause chemical burns, blistering, severe redness, and contact dermatitis. The tint not only stains the hair but also the uppermost layer of skin, making it difficult to remove without harsh methods. Additionally, extended contact with strong chemicals can compromise the hair's structure, potentially leading to brittleness, breakage, or temporary thinning.
