TikTok influencer Sydney Towle has died at the age of 26 after a three-year battle with a rare bile duct cancer. Her family confirmed her passing after she entered hospice care, remembering her for the strength she displayed throughout her health journey.
"She fought really hard, and we’re so proud of her," her brother, Austin Towle, said in a TikTok video alongside their mother, Elizabeth Marrow. "We thank all of you for your support over the years."
Marrow also reflected on the legacy her daughter leaves behind, noting that Towle openly shared her experiences with terminal illness on the platform. "We love you and thank you for all of your kind messages of support and love," she added. "We really appreciate it and she will not be forgotten."
Towle, who was based in New York, was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, an aggressive form of bile duct cancer, in early 2022 at the age of 23. The disease is typically found in older adults, making her diagnosis particularly rare for a young person.
She launched her TikTok channel to share the realities of living with a terminal illness, documenting treatments, hospital stays, and moments of reflection. Her candid videos garnered over 1.1 million followers who were inspired by her vulnerability and resilience.
Throughout her diagnosis, Towle pursued various treatment options, including preparing for tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy when her cancer spread to her lungs and stomach. Despite medical advice to begin end-of-life care, she sought second opinions and worked with specialists to manage her condition.
One of her most significant achievements was fulfilling a dream to walk in Miami Swim Week. She modeled adaptive designs tailored for post-cancer bodies and surgical scars, describing the experience as one of the proudest and most empowering of her life.
"People always ask why I’m so positive … why would I not envision the best-case scenario?" Towle said in a viral TikTok clip. "Miracles happen every day. Nobody knows for sure what’s going to happen."
News of her death prompted an outpouring of tributes from followers and fellow influencers who shared how her strength had impacted their lives. Many expressed their deep sadness and admiration for her spirit.
